About Northern Lights Paranormal

Northern Lights Paranormal is a team of voluntary investigators and researchers located throughout Alaska and across the nation. We are ordinary people from various backgrounds and we have a passion for paranormal research and study.

One of the main reasons ghosts are fascinating to our paranormal researchers is that they seem to stay in a particular geographic location. The chances of being in the right place at the right time to witness a UFO or Chupacabra are rare. Ghosts are more obliging. However, it's still incredibly lucky to witness one.

Northern Lights Paranormal was originally founded as Alaska Paranormal Research in June 2006. Our team was originally founded by independent people seeking to join an established group. After the search became exhausting, it was decided among these people to form a group of their own. Being inexperienced and not having the benefit of experience from an established group, our team had to learn many hard lessons along the way. Today, we have become a respectable team, made better because of those experiences.

Our motto: "Through research and understanding we can gain knowledge and answers."

Our mission is threefold:

  • To assist people that are experiencing paranormal phenomena and help them understand their experiences.

  • To promote collaboration of evidence and contribute to the field of paranormal research as a whole to better our understanding of anomalous phenomena.

  • To educate the general public and those individuals seeking to study the field by encouraging partnerships among various organizations.

The eight star constellation represents our beginnings, a symbol borrowed from the Alaska flag. It's also a reminder for the year of our founding:  2 + 0 + 0 + 6 = 8

Our Name Change

As life goes on and lives change, we need to re-evaluate the things that are important to us. A few of our members have left Alaska to pursue the tings that were important to them but wanted to continue on with our team. With active members in other places, the name Alaska Paranormal Research was too geographically descriptive. Northern Lights Paranormal was chosen because it is a non-geographical name that still has a bit of Alaskan sentiment attached with it. This was one reason for the decision to change our name. Unfortunately, there was another reason we had to consider; one that has been with us almost since our founding.

In an effort to remain professional and not create additional problems, we had decided not to make public the problems another group of people had been creating for our team and many other people. However, as we remained silent about these people and their activities, they continued to create additional problems. Finally, it was decided by every member of our team the time had come to break the silence.

A group of just a few people that had at one time called themselves IOPIA (Investigators of Paranormal in Alaska) has given not only themselves a certain reputation but have attempted and had partial success in creating a negative reputation for other paranormal researchers in Alaska, including our team.

IOPIA has never been affiliated with Alaska Paranormal Research / Northern Lights Paranormal. Confusion over our identity began when IOPIA started to incorporate parts of our name into theirs, eventually annexing our entire name. Although this in itself was problematic, the real trouble began when members of their team would claim to be members of ours. Their misrepresentation and improper conduct with our former clients together with identity confusion began to create a negative reputation for us. Until now, Alaska Paranormal Research had only been known by this one name. The media would occasionally indentify us Alaska Paranormal Research Group or Alaska Paranormal Research Team. These were the only exceptions to our identity since our founding. We decided to create a new name for our team to help distance ourselves from IOPIA and their complications.

IOPIA, IOPIAlaska Paranormal, IOPIAlaska Paranormal Research, Alaska Paranormal IOPIA, etc... are all one in the same group of people. Please do not confuse us with them. Our intention is not to slander another team, be it IOPIA or anyone else. However, we felt it irresponsible if we didn't alert our clients and the public to these issues and try to reclaim our identity. We have not and will not go into all of the details of IOPIA's unprofessional conduct and unethical behavior. Any online search will yield enough information to verify the claims we have made here.

Again, it is not our intention to speak negatively about another paranormal team. We truly regret posting this information. But, it is something we needed to do to protect our hard earned reputation. Please, try to understand our motive.

Thank you.

Team Member Identity

* The identification program will become operational in January 2011. Ask each member for government issued identification and contact a Co-Founder for verification.

Each team member is required to carry identification at all times. This safeguard is in place to protect our clients and our team members. Each team member will have government issued identification and Northern Lights Paranormal identification.

Verification is an easy two step process.

  1. Please verify each team member's identity by confirming their government issued identification matches our NLP identification.

  2. Then verify online through our website to establish the team member's active status.

A member that may have forgotten their identification can easily be verified as an active member by examining their government issued identification and locating their record on our website.

A member that is not listed on our website is not an active member of NLP, even if the person is presenting proper identification.

If there are any questions regarding the process or someone's identity, a Co-Founder can always be contacted by phone to bring rapid resolution.
