Requesting Help

Please feel free to contact Northern Lights Paranormal with questions or concerns at our email address or by phone. Your messages are always confidential and important to us. We check our messages regularly and will respond in a timely manner, usually within 24 hours.

If you call us, be sure to leave a detailed message with a call back number. Or if you prefer we don't return your call by phone, be sure to leave the details for the method of communication you desire (email, post, etc.).

We understand how difficult it could be to ask for help, let alone talk about paranormal topics. That's why we're here! Sometimes, callers are so uncomfortable talking about their paranormal experiences that they only leave a message with their name and a call back number. And this is perfectly fine. However, sometimes a caller gets so involved in the details of their description he or she forgets to leave their name or a phone number. Many times we have been unable to return a call because the caller didn't provide us with those details. We want to help, but can only do so if we know how to contact you.

Northern Lights Paranormal will investigate private residences, commercial properties or any other location we deem appropriate to investigate. Advanced notice is appreciated for investigations conducted outside the Anchorage metropolitan area.

Your request will be considered provided it is compatible with our mission.

Our mission is threefold:

  • To assist people that are experiencing paranormal phenomena and help them understand their experiences.

  • To promote collaboration of evidence and contribute to the field of paranormal research as a whole to better our understanding of anomalous phenomena.

  • To educate the general public and those individuals seeking to study the field by encouraging partnerships among various organizations and by providing learning opportunities.

Be sure to leave your name and phone number or email address in your message !

Restrictions

For legal reasons, we can only accept requests from adults, persons 18 years old and older. Also, we understand you may be contacting us to help a friend. However, we need to communicate directly with the people that are having paranormal experiences. We do not "cold call" and will not contact anybody that isn't expecting our communications. The best way to help a friend is to direct them to our web site or give them our contact details.

We can not help someone without their consent. In other words, if someone in the family does not want our help, we cannot help them. The only exception is if someone has legal guardianship of another, has power of attorney and is the executor of their affairs. We will need to review the original court paperwork and be provided with a certified copy before any further decisions can be made to assist a person in this particular circumstance. If there are any doubts in our minds, we will decline a case in favor of preserving an individual's legal rights and personal liberty.

The Investigation Process

The first thing that happens is we receive a request from you, for a consultation and/or an investigation. Also, at this step in the process, if you haven't begun to keep an event log of your experiences, then you should begin one now. It is important to track the time and date of the occurrence, the witnesses and any other pertinent information. We will review the log with you during the interview.

After you contact us, we will reply to you either by email or phone. A pre-interview questionnaire will take place, usually by phone or sometimes by email or an in person meeting.

Next, an interview is scheduled. The interview itself is conducted in person, usually at the location where the phenomena is being experienced. It is typically an hour in duration, but can take longer depending on circumstances. We prefer to record the interview for reference, but you may choose not to be recorded. Our interview questions will establish the scope and seriousness of your case. You may also be asked to provide contact information for other witnesses of the activity in question. We will then ask you to give us a tour. By walking through the location, you will be able to give us a detailed explanation of what activity has been occurring in which areas. This tour will also help us prepare for a possible future vigil. We will document the details you provide us on the tour and we may also gather some minor equipment readings at this time to give us some baseline data. At the conclusion of the interview, we may set up a date and time to conduct our vigil, or we may take some time to do some research into the background of your location or conduct additional interviews with other witnesses.

We will do our best to accommodate you and, if necessary, perform our investigation as quickly as possible. However, we are unable to immediately respond to an emergency situation. If you require immediate help and believe your life is being threatened, it is best to utilize other appropriate resources or emergency services first. If the situation is uncomfortable and you are feeling unsafe, you should go some place where you do feel safe until help arrives.

Continue documenting any unusual occurrences until we arrive for the vigil.

At the beginning of the vigil, we will establish a base camp, unpack our equipment and begin setting up for evidence collecting. We may request a tour of the location if one has not been previously given to us.  Also during this time, we will begin taking measurements and equipment readings to give us comparison data to assist with our investigation. This will also be the last opportunity you will have to ask us any questions you may have for us until the vigil is completed.

During the vigil, we need to be undisturbed. For your safety, the integrity of the investigation and credibility of the evidence, we request you vacate the location. If this isn't possible, we request that you remain quiet and unobtrusive, allowing the investigators work to go unabated. You can expect the vigil to last about four to eight hours. An estimate will be given prior to our arrival for the vigil. However, paranormal activity is unpredictable and thus investigation times will vary. Your location may warrant a shorter vigil or, if it's quite active, may run longer than anticipated.

Even though you may be experiencing activity in certain areas, it is likely we will investigate most, if not the whole, of the location. We will try to focus on areas where paranormal events have been reported to occur, but keep in mind that we are trying to get a better understanding of the phenomena and need to get as comprehensive of a profile as we can get for your location.

After the vigil has completed, evidence will be reviewed and evaluated. This is the longest part of the investigation and may take several weeks to complete depending on the amount of data collected and the research involved. A general rule is each hour of recorded data takes about 24 hours to analyze. Factor in the number of recording devices and the number of investigators involved and you can begin to understand how time intensive the analysis can be.

Upon completion of our evidence review, you will be contacted to inform you the findings, if any. In some instances it might be necessary to request follow up visits. It's possible that on our first visit no data will be collected for various reasons and other times activity will be such that ongoing research will be warranted. Any follow-ups are at your discretion and don't require any obligations.

Northern Lights Paranormal has joint ownership with you of the evidence collected. This joint ownership helps protect you and us from having any information that may be publicly released from being exploited or misrepresented. As always, your confidentiality is assured. We never share any information without your specific written consent. No case is left behind without closure or continued support.

How to Prepare

You should arrange for child care for very young children during our vigil. Strangers showing up at their home with equipment and talking about ghosts may upset and confuse them, especially if the subject hasn't been discussed with them.

We understand the potential excitement surrounding a paranormal investigation. We ask that only the occupants or persons who have experienced phenomenon be present. Our equipment is extremely sensitive and any crowding, excessive talking, or other noise could contaminate any evidence collected during the vigil, thus invalidating the findings.

Safety is our first concern for all involved ~ humans and animals. This is why we ask that you crate or restrain your family pets during our visits. Some normally well mannered pets can suddenly become ill tempered in response to the presence of many strangers in the home. If at all possible, arrange to have your animals cared for at another location during our time, please.

Also, we ask that you inform and have the consent of all adults living in the household regarding the investigation. We do not want to be investigating a location and have an uninformed family member arrive home to find a room full of strangers. This could make for a very uncomfortable situation for all persons involved.

And finally, although we believe that what people do in their own homes is no one’s business but their own, we will not, under any circumstance, remain at an investigation location where anyone is intoxicated or under the influence of illegal substances. Please refrain from alcohol or other "recreational" activities the day of the vigil and during the vigil itself. And, on a similar note, please refrain from smoking during our vigil. Stray cigarette smoke can make potential evidence invalid and create physical discomfort for persons with asthma.

Team Member Identity

* The identification program will become operational in January 2011. Ask each member for government issued identification and contact a Co-Founder for verification.

Each team member is required to carry identification at all times. This safeguard is in place to protect our clients and our team members. Each team member will have government issued identification and Northern Lights Paranormal identification.

Verification is an easy two step process.

  1. Please verify each team member's identity by confirming their government issued identification matches our NLP identification.

  2. Then verify online through our website to establish the team member's active status.

A member that may have forgotten their identification can easily be verified as an active member by examining their government issued identification and locating their record on our website.

A member that is not listed on our website is not an active member of NLP, even if the person is presenting proper identification.

If there are any questions regarding the process or someone's identity, a Co-Founder can always be contacted by phone to bring rapid resolution.
